Can anyone suggest a hotel for parents during move-in time in August?

lalady..theres a Holiday Inn thats perfectly servicable right near the school where we stayed many times. You'll be getting mail from the Parents Association with offers including discounts for hotels for the move in time. Theres many lovely resort type places, but we found we had no time to take advantage of the facilities during the move in period.Theres another place we stayed for graduation last spring which was also good,I have to look it up and will report back. What I would recommend for the parents ,if you have a few extra days, when move in is done, drive the less than 2 hours to Sedona for at least one night..its magnificent.

Twin Palms Hotel is across the street from the Honors college. We stayed there and walked across the street to help my son get settle at the dorm. Most of the performers at the Gammage Audtorium stay at this place since it is so close, so you may run into interesting people.

Ask for discounts. We have the Entertainment book and the discount was very good.

Make reservations as early as possible regardless in what hotel you stay. There will be many families looking for places close by to the school.

Be prepared for hot days. We can laugh about it today, but it was a very stressful day due to the temperature and the pick up of the boxes at the UPS store. We are from out of state, so we shipped most of the staff, and spent about 2 hours in line waiting to get the boxes. Then, the car didn't fit the big boxes and we have to take everything out at the stadium parking lot and discard the boxes there, which meant lots of walking on the sun to get to the recycle containers. That reminds me, the asphalt in the parking lot was soft from the heat. Have lots of water with you and a water bottle holder that you can wear in your belt or carry with you somehow, also make sure you have plenty of sun protection on you (sunscreen, sun glasses, hats) local were light clothes with sleeves due to the intensity of the sun.

Take your video camera; there is nothing like what you will see that day. I wish we had taped all the kids and parents dragging the staff into the dorm. At the end of the day, there are so many empty boxes everywhere...

Plan for a relaxed dinner somewhere else and probably your son/daughter will not go with you. Oh by the way, dont expect to get too much time with your son/daughter after they get to the dorm. They are so excited meeting all the other kids and making plans, they are gone the minute you finish moving the boxes in. So BE EMOTIONALLY PREPARED FOR IT. You can be around in the background to run the errands of the last few things there are missing, but dont count on very much time with the kids after they step in that dorm. We didnt see my son for a couple of days and had to ask him to make the time for dinner with us the last day we were there.
