Hello everyone, my name is Andrew from SF,CA. Currently, I have an idea on the colleges that I want to go to (though it may surely change over the course of my junior year). I just need some input on how to categorize these colleges in terms of reach/match/safety (though I have a basic idea).

With stats (trust me average)
GPA - 3.78 (rank 9)
SAT - 1610 (CR 480 M 590)
ECs - 5 Clubs (showing commitment)
Sports - Swimming (very commmitted)
Comm. Service (Inconsistent but its there. I volunteer when I have time)

Current list of Colleges that I have in mind:

Rice - Huge Reach
Northeastern - Match
Occidental - Reach
U of Pacific - Match
Boston U - Match
UC Santa Cruz - Reach
Berea - Reach (changed from Safety)
Humboldt - Safety
Skidmore - Reach
Chapman - Match
Whitter - Safety

Did I categorize them correctly? I just want to know where I stand within these colleges as of now. I know my SAT will hinder me a lot in these admissions, but I'm hoping to retake it in June and take the ACT as well in June. But I'm pretty sure if I don't get into my matches/reaches, I still love my safeties!!
Any feedbacks are welcome. Thanks!

Berea is likely a reach, maybe a huge one. It accepts only 25% or so of applicants, roughly the same percentage as Rice, mostly from Appalachia (though there is a sizeable foreign contingent.) SATs are at the lowest 25th percentile. They won't care much about your sports one way or the other.

Thank you mini. I misread the info in Berea's website. I though they take around the range of 930 in SAT. Now rereading it again, I was dumfounded and you're correct that my SAT score is on the lowerst 25th percentile. Thank you! And thanks for giving me the email to family who knows about Berea. This is really very resourceful!

Thanks huskem for replying and that link you gave me have been very useful. I went to that track in the past and gathered a nice list. But as years goes on, I also achieved certain criterias and the list I have in this thread has been solid in terms of interest. From that link you provided, one of the schools that I was interested in was Bowdoin, which doesn't require SAT. However, I changed my mind since Bowdoin is not what I'm looking for. But thank you for the response. Appreciate it much!

Thanks guys for the input. I would have to say that SAT is my downfall. Really hoping to improve in the ACT, which might be easier for me, or retake the SAT in the beginning of my senior year if my ACT score is still lacking. But Rice is my dream school, it wouldn't really hurt to apply. I'm hoping to apply to Rice ED or ID to show that I want to go to the school. Probably ID just to compare packages.

Question though, does Rice really weight heavily on the SAT score? I was adviced that Rice look more than just test score, even if I'm not even on the below 25% percentile. I'm really taking the initiative to ask question to Rice U and what not to show that I'm really really interested in the school. I hope this helps too.

umm buddy... i was waitlisted at Rice with a 2110 (720, 710, 680) and a perfect academic record (all A's)j, plenty of extra curriculars including a top ten national rank in my sport... you really have no chance at Rice. sorry.

lol on getting into a top score with less than a 2000.

You wont get into BU with that, nor Rice, nor Skidmore, nor Occidental. You probably wouldnt get into NEU, although it isnt much of a loss. I hated it.
