I do not have a linear algebra background. Will I still be able to do well in 18.03? Also, does anyone have any advice on which biology class I should take next semester? How difficult is biology at MIT? (I do not have a strong biology background).
It helps to know a few basic things on matrices, determinants, trace, etc. for 18.03 but you don’t need a huge 18.06 background. They recently incorporated more 18.06 material, which somewhat annoyed me and others (I took 18.03 before the change).
I took 7.012 which I found pretty difficult with almost no biology background. I can’t really comment much on 7.015/6.
Thank you for the help! I will try to take 18.06 then next semester instead. I was hoping to take 2.001 next semester as well, but since a coreq is 18.03, I will have to take both in the spring.
You could also take 18.03 next fall and 2.001/18.06 in the spring, but this probably won’t be much different unless you easily forget stuff or if the professors are very good/bad.
But Jerison’s a good professor so taking 18.03 in the spring is not a bad idea either.
Thank you!
Have you heard anything about J. Dunkel for 18.03? I think it would be very important if I could take 18.03 and 2.001 in the fall so that I can be on track to a mechanical engineering major. I found a linear algebra course on EdX, so I will finish the course over the summer in order to be more prepared for taking this class.
@Jessica392 no, but you might be able to find data on previous subject evaluations (Kerberos reqd).
