NEED ADVICE ASAP-Syracuse or Binghamton

I thought would post here because I want my undergraduate education to lead to law school eventually.

I'm transferring as an undergrad junior and I just found out a couple of days ago that it will cost me the same to attend Syracuse as it would to attend Binghamton so I'm not sure which one to go to. I had planned on attending Binghamton before.

At Syracuse I will be in the Whitman School of Management as a management major with a Policy Studies minor.

At Bing I'll be in the Harpur School of Arts and Sciences majoring in Philosophy Politics and Law. I would like to apply for the Harpur Fast Track MBA after a semester also if I attended Binghamton.

I'm kind of torn because I wanted to attend Syracuse out of high school but it was too expensive then but I've heard Binghamton's business school is amazing and if I were to get into the Fast Track MBA that would be great. Having an an MBA then going to law school would be a great combination. But it is posisble that I may not be accepted into the fast track program so I'm not sure.

I hope to go to law school one day and every grade you've ever received is factored into your law school application gpa and while my gpa now is very good because I retook a few classes I did poorly in, during my first year of college it wasn't so great, so my LSAC is pretty crappy right now when I calculated it by factoring in every class. I hope to maintain over a 3.7 wherever I transfer so I am hoping law schools will look at my transfer gpa instead of my original community college gpa. Also, Syracuse has a tier 1 law school so would attending Syracuse for undergrad possibly help me eventually get into their law school?

Thanks in advance for your help! I need to decide within a week as classes begin in less than 4 weeks and I'd have to forfeit my Binghamton housing soon and look for an apartment in Syracuse because they're is no more space in the housing there.

Go wherever you can get a higher gpa with less debt. Probably Binghamton.

I would REALLY not suggest going to Syracuse law (ranked 86th) since you’ll have trouble finding a well paying job in this economy (excess of lawyers etc) not to mention the ridiculous law school debt you’ll incur (45k per year).

First, I completely agree with the poster to attend the school that will give you the least debt and lowest cost overall.

Second, as to Syracuse Law, it is one of the most expensive law schools in the nation. If it also provided huge job opportunities for that cost, I might be able to recommend it;however, this isn’t the case.

Okay well just for undergrad since Syracuse and Binghamton are costing me the same, would you suggest Syracuse or Binghamton? I still want to attend law school but I’d rather attend a top 50 rather than 86th for law school.

Binghamton grad here; Daughter is a rising junior at Newhouse…
if Syracuse is the same $$ for undergrad, and you have wanted to attend there since HS, go for it:

1) Whitman w public policy is a home run; alot of your public policy professors are from Maxwell which is a nationally ranked program (for grad public affairs)

2) off campus housing is still abundant in Syracuse for fairly reasonable prices; plus most off campus housing is really on-campus…if you need realtors, PM me…

3)Binghamton is fine, but I think housing will be much harder to get on or off-campus as a junior…

You cant lose either way but if Syr is the kind of place you want to be at, I don’t see why the decision?

PM me if you have other questions…

I just re-read your post: I’m not sure Binghamton’s MBA program is as highly ranked or recruited as undergrad and it’s mostly accounting that gets Bing the high rating…
