need advice on studying for chemistry?? failing exams after getting straight A's,A-'s freshman year

Hi

I'm entering my sophomore year in 2 weeks, but taking some summer classes.

one of them is general chemistry 2, i got an A on it in the previous semester, general chemistry 1. However, in this summer class, general chemistry 2 I just failed the past 2 tests...

I usually take a practice test and go over it, go over homework, and go over all my notes. It worked in general chemistry 1, but it isn't working in general chemistry 2. any advice from you guys who are good at chem?

Have you considered if there’s a pattern to the test problems that you didn’t get correct? Honestly, I did what you said in the last paragraph, and it got me through gen chem 2. :

Go to your professor. Ask about the specific questions. Also ask "What study habits to succesful students in your class have?'

Make sure you aren’t pseudo-studying…<a href=“The Straight-A Gospels: Pseudo-Work Does Not Equal Work - Cal Newport”>http://calnewport.com/blog/2007/07/26/the-straight-a-gospels-pseudo-work-does-not-equal-work/</a>
That is, “going over” your work where you recognize it, but don’t understand it.

Form a study group.

Figure out why you didn’t get test questions right.

 1. Is that you didn’t know the topic existed?
 2. Did you not read about it?
 3. Did you not understand it?
 4. Did you not do extra problems about it?

Get a tutor

Get a book that has extra practice problems
