need advice

im interested in both economics and chemistry what are the benefits and drawbacks of these majors

Economics
Pros: likely to get a good job, stable career, great salary
Cons: some people could find it a bit boring

Chemistry:
Pros: sorry can’t think of any
Cons: high unemployment, extremely unstable jobs (mostly temp), pay is insultingly bad, dead-end no career advancement, Job is rarely interesting, Field is being ravaged by h1b and off-shoring, pharma the #1 employer pf biologists and chemists has been the number one industry the past several years for layoffs. Industry has little respect for scientists. To the MBA’s running things you are just a lab [insert pejorative of choice serf, monkey, rat, B_tch, N-word].

At this point I would only get the chemistry degree as a prereq for professional school or go for chemical engineering.

If you major in chemistry you will have no career, no life, and no hobbies except hanging around online telling people not to major in chemistry. You will be a loser.

There is no other alternative. None, I say.

Imagine sschoe2 got married and then gets divorced soon after. He will then hang out all day on marriage and relationship forums telling people that marriage is a sham because marriage didn’t end well for him and his experiences triumphs all other opinions. He will then post stats regarding US divorce rates.

I’ve actually often compared science to a bad spouse that beats you down and tortures you (financially) and keeps telling you that you are worthless. The only reason people stay are that they feel trapped of have low self-esteem.

If I had unlimited funds I’d create an abused science grad scholarship fund for help changing careers.

Meanwhile it is nice to know that science is an abusive jerk, with a criminal record and leaves the toilet seat up before you become married to it.

Science has been very good to me.
