I am in 10th grade and currently go to boarding school in a foreign country, but I am an American. I came to the school not knowing how to speak the language in which my classes were taught, but now I speak alright and am doing well in all my classes. But I am not really learning much except for the language.

I have the option to continue here as a regular student, taking my classes in a language which I don't know completely, and taking the exact same exams as native local students. I really like life here, but I am afraid of my academic future if I stay here. I know if I return I can be a top student, get an IB, finish math 11th grade, and be an amazing student. If I stay I will have the amazing experience of spending my high school life in a foreign boarding school in a nation I love, but I feel that I cannot be the same student I could be in America. I could do well, but I couldn't be the valedictorian I could have been in America.

After either high school experience, I plan to join the army of the foreign nation in which I am residing. I know that experience which will be much smoother if I stay here, but I would be worried about college.

Would staying hurt my chances of getting into a good college? It would be more interesting, but I could not be the academic stay I could have been in America.
