Every school has a Net Price Calculator where you can run the numbers. As an International student, however, it will probably vary from what the college’s final determination will be, but it is a lot better than asking people here.
As mentioned earlier, each college will determine what they will offer you financially. Even in the case of schools that meet full need, this amount may differ from what you want.
Agree with skieurope. You can’t estimate when each school may look at your need and offer their packages differently. Run the efc calculator on collegeboard and then the NPCs on each school’s website. There are several variable they will consider. And getting full need met as an international especially with an 80k income may be a significant challenge
American schools are generally hesitant to give FA to int’ls, bcs it is difficult for colleges to verify the financials of people overseas.
I’ve personally been appalled by some of the students I’ve interviewed overseas, who ask for FA and come to the interview in a mercedes and have a home address in a posh neighbohood.
What about private colleges that DON’T meet full financial need? Do they tend to cost less? If so, do those colleges admit more international students than full need met colleges? Is it a smart choice to apply to those colleges? Will I get enough merit aid if I am a good student?
You are still generalizing that all colleges are the same price and run need in the same manner. This is not one price fits all. No one here knows if you will get enough merit aid if you are a good student. Fortunately for you, the privates will charge the same expensive prices to everyone. They also don’t have to guarantee financial aid to anyone.
Overall, depending on a number of factors, the private schools are going to cost money as well. Look up the privates that you hope to attend, and see if those prices are reasonable. Look up the merit aid available. No one can tell you specifically how the costs will factor into your budget. Google is your friend. Try looking up your schools and assume that the privates will run anywhere from $40K to $70K per year before merit aid.
Without knowing how much you can afford, it’s impossible to answer your question. What’s “enough merit aid”? Many schools will give you SOME aid – but will still expect you to pay the rest - and that can be a great deal of money.
