He is sophomore, 19 years old. He is a very special kid who has from time to time an special interest in something let me explain it better, he used to fall in love with orchids so everything around him had something to do with those flowers and his dorm had plenty or them; as soon as the plants died, he started to focus on photography (he is also pursuing a major in photography), lenses, cameras, cameras backpacks, filters, and frames were everything he wanted; after that, he became obsessed with Japanese culture and the tea ceremony, so tea pots and special teas would be perfect, but now, I dont know what he likes and Im sure its something different. He is also a very romantic boy, but like all the boys, it cant be a romantic novel, it has to have action, mystery or something that involves him at first sigh. What kind of book would be interesting for a person like that? It has to be easy reading, since this kid is not an avid reader. Any suggestions?

The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown if he hasn't already read it.

The Kite Runner (Khaled Hosseini) or The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Night-time (Mark Haddon) or White Teeth (Zadie Smith)

I second ambidextrous' first two choices (The Kite Runner and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime)...I haven't read White Teeth, but now I think I will!

Thank you all! I'm trying to make of this kid a reader and I won't give up.
(He started to read The Da Vinci Code, but the movie came and half of the book was left untouched)
Do you have any other suggestions beside the fiction books?

People's interests in books change so much--what about a gift card to the local book store, and take him to get a couple books and a cup of coffee? It's even more personal that way and you can see what he's interested in.

Astronomy books are always fun...it might just end up being a new hobby! :D

I like books that give you a bit of info on a lot of things, instead of novels

The World Almanac. I get a new one every year, it's full of great information.

The Alphabet of Manliness by Maddox.

A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. It's about this really funny, crazy guy who tries to walk the whole Appalachian Trail - and he's pretty much completely unprepared. It's sweet.
