I got into Stanford and MIT and well..I am so confused at the moment. Which university offers more opportunities and has a more vivid student body?

I got a likely letter from Harvard, but I am not sure that I will be attending...so it's up to Stanford and MIT. I need some insight on this one.

Preferences:
Explore new things in science. Travel a lot, and simply enjoy life.

I know a few people who went to MIT (granted they’re adults so it could be totally different now) and one thing they definitely didn’t do there was enjoy life.

How you feel about the atmosphere at MIT really depends on what type of person you are. You should probs visit both if you haven’t so you could compare them better.

granted, I am biased towards Stanford… but if you are worried about quality of life, think about this: my dorm was sunbathing in January. I don’t think MIT can say the same. We have plenty of science-oriented people (known as techies) too. There’s an opportunity for you to do pretty much anything and everything you have time for. I feel like Stanford is kind of unique in that we have a lot of the ‘big school’ things - D1 football and other sports, world-famous (infamous?) band, and lots of spirit - but at the same time we’re one of the top universities (in every dept.) nationwide. I can’t imagine myself anywhere else.

I would say Stanford, from the people that I have met.

If you want to explore new things in the sciences, Stanford and MIT are certainly both great places, but which subject area are you looking into?

I would say Stanford definitely offers the more vivid student body. plus, stanford’s weather definitely lets you enjoy life, and stanford has a wider array of classes you can take.

The way I see it, both have comparable math, science, and engineering programs. What isn’t comparable is the look of the campus (people say MIT is one of the ugliest campuses), the strength of the humanities (if you ever want to dip your toes into a different field, but I guess you can cross-enroll at H, right?), the weather (unless you really love snow, Stanford wins), sports (unless you want to walk onto a team, then Stanford), and a few other things I’m probably forgetting.

MIT has Boston (sanfran is kinda far away) and all those other east-coast cities. MIT has all those fly Harvard chicks near it too.

Stanford has a beautiful campus, and MIT’s is known to be pretty ugly.
And of course, the weather.
Anyhow, because Stanford seems to have more interesting opportunities and because I’m not the science-y type, I prefer Stan.

zenkoan, after reading the above, I hereby take back the only (slightly) negative thing I ever said about you. You are doing a terrific job of selling Stanford. Keep up the good work!

Hahaha looks like this became quite a hot topic. Thanks guys for your replies. I eventually ended up choosing Harvard over all of the rest. I am now CRIMSON inside! Wooho! :)
