I am heavily considering applying to UNC but I have a question on whether to apply to School of Information and Librarian Science or Kenan-Flager for business. My dilemma is this: I have applied to 7 schools already as either A) Computer Information Systems major B) Management Information Systems or C) Computer Science (not really my number one preference, it's just for UVA you cannot apply to business school until 3rd year. At most of these schools, I have applied to the business school since Management Information Systems is a business major. But, at my safety Syracuse, they have a whole "I School", where there are many information-based computer majors.

I guess my goal is to have a major where business and computers collaborate with each other, not just program daily or do finance. I feel management information systems is a happy medium, but UNC does not offer this major

My question is for current students or knowledgable prospects/parents: Do I apply to the School of Information and Librarian Science as Information Science (are there business aspects in the curriculum) or go to Kenan-Flager where there may be some routes where computers are involved?

Like UVA, you don’t apply for admission directly into KF. It is possible to be selected upon your admission to UNC for the assured admit program for KF. Otherwise, you normally apply to KF as a UNC sophomore.

Hmm, but on commonapp it puts business as a major I’m pretty sure… Should I apply for Information Science?

You can put any intended major you wish, including undeclared. The primary objective is to be accepted into UNC. You can change majors or apply to KF when you get here. For admission into KF, you can only apply after completion of your first year at UNC (there are KF pre-req courses you need to complete at UNC and a interview process also). Approx 50% of UNC students who apply to KF gain acceptance. Or, if you are a very strong candidate applying to UNC (again, any intended major, or undeclared), you might be selected for the KF AAP as part of the Excel @ Carolina Program. AAP effectively guarantees you admission into KF after the completion of your first year at UNC, KF pre-reqs completed and assuming you maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA at UNC. I suggest you Google Kenan-Flagler Undergraduate Admissions or Google Kenan-Flagler Assured Admission Program to further understand the admission process.
