need help in regards to course types !

hey everyone! so my name is ari, and i’m from canada. i’m just finding out that i may have a major problem on my hands?

so im in my senior year at an all girls private school. im going to be ending up with 8 grade 12 credits total (the required is six) but the problem is, for a few reasons (if it matters, i dont mind telling just ask) i’m taking/have taken three online. so i’ll be getting five credits from my school, and three from online.

but i was talking to our school’s academic advisor today, and he told me that i’ve been pretty much placed out of the running for any of the school’s i want to go to in the states, because they’ll be wondering why and placing me at a lower level because of it. but then, last night i talked to someone who counsels people here to get into american universities and she said that as long as my academic advisor writes in his report that i’ve “gone above and beyond academically” and pushed myself and had a rigorous academic experience, it would negate anything bad from the fact about online courses, and he did agree to write that.

but i guess my question is, for the schools i’m applying to (brown and caltech being my top choices, also going for cornell, harvard, hopkins, uchicago, and yale) is the online course this actually going to significantly affect my application, and if so, will writing that really negate those effects?

thank you SO much for reading, and thank you in advance for your responses !!

bump!

1/ Don’t shamelessly bump your own post after 2 hours.

I don’t know your specific circumstances, but, yes, that is what the advisor needs to write. Good luck.

@skieurope the reason i bumped this post after only two and a half hours is because i need an answer for my academic advisor by the end of the evening at the absolute latest, so i’m in quite a bit of a rush, and it was already at the bottom of the page

thank you though, for your response

UPDATE: so i ended up going with staying online with the courses. was this the right decision?

You haven’t gotten answers because your OP is incomprehensible. Are you taking 8 courses? 12 courses? What are the courses? How difficult are they? If you are taking something like Differential Equations or Linear Algebra on line, Caltech will be impressed. If you are taking Algebra 2 they won’t be. If your GC says your course rigor is the most possible at your school, you should be okay as far as course work is concerned, but we have no idea because you haven’t given us a clue. In some school/school systems taking online courses is the only way to get beyond the meager offerings of the regular systems. In other places it may well be an easy way to avoid harder local courses.
