Hi...Im a junior who self studied AP physics Cs last year and got all 5s. Im not going to take ap physics courses or any physics courses in 11th and 12th grade.

I registered for the physics B this year because it also covers some additional areas of physics. Im little worried that since B is much easier than C. Would taking it after I take C seem that Im just trying to get more APs?

Or they do reflect different area of learning and what I am doing is ok.

Ya..is anyone in my situation before?

THANKYOU

I've never been in your position but I can't think of any situation where an admissions person would really look down on you for taking AP classes, assuming you score well. Everything you do will be viewed in the context of your application as a whole, so I don't think one test is going to make much difference. If you were also taking 15 other APs that you aren't passionate about then I think you would look like a bit of an AP whore. But since you are obviously interested in physics, I say by all means go for it.

I am not sure that not having any Physics course on your transcript is a good idea. While getting a 5 on an AP test for which you self studied is an indication that you mastered the material, it is not necessarily an indication how you would do in an advanced physics class. AP classes are survey classes, fairly shallow with little demand for analysis. At my daugher's high school it is much harder to get an A in the AP Physics class than a 5 on the test.

By far the hardest first year class at MIT is physics and kids who scored well on the AP test do not necessarily do better than those who did not. The approach is very different and for most they need to relearn physics form scratch.

umm....I like physics

But we are in the IB system, so you can only do two sciences.

and since I finished all physics in 10th grade....I just thought of doing bio instead...so that I end up doing all three science after high school?

I'll be in a similar situation next year.

I didn't have any physics at all...AP or otherwise...on my transcript. Long story...basically I had schedule conflicts because I took AP Chem my junior year, which apparently my school doesn't like....i know, weird. I wouldn't suggest it, but I still got in. So I wouldn't worry about not having it on your transcript, since you already have AP, but that's just my humble prefrosh opinion.

just another question, can somebody check if I am up to date with my course load (is it rigrous enough to not disadvantage me?)

10th grade...nothing in school...but I self studied AP cal BC and AP phys C at home and got 5s on all that year.

11th grade.... In the IB diploma..my six main courses are:

IB standard eng
IB higher math
IB higher chem
IB standard bio
IB higher econ
IB standard chinese (self taught)
IB further math (self taught)

10th grade...nothing in school (my school is very small and doesnt offer a lot of course choices even for IB)...but I self studied AP cal BC and AP phys C at home and got 5s on all that year.

Note: Im "good" in chem math and phys (I know, everyone on this thread is good) But Im NOT brilliant in Biology...would that hurt me alot?

Finishing AP physics B, Chemistry, Economcis tests this year (like next week!!)

And I am doing the same subjects senior year...(I know..but its the IB and although I know all the chem and econ already I cant just drop the courses)

(living outside US...so cannot really go to colleges and take courses)

YEA...Just want to know does this course load effect my chances for MIT negatively (and my number of APs? Im not a national scholar)

THANKYOU
