I'm planning on taking a "gap year" next year and I'm having some trouble deciding what to do. I will be applying to colleges over the course of the gap year, so I really need some advice on how to make my year look good. I know that its pretty late to do a gap year, but I've been trying to create a plan over the past few weeks and I still have a lot of questions.

Anyway, I want to major in finance as an undergrad and pursue a career in investment banking. Here is my current gap year plan:

Work at a local Finance company - 6 months
Work in a finance company abroad (through a structured gap year program) - 6 months

I thought that this plan would be fun and that it would look good on my college application. My problem is that I want to ED to my top choice school for the economics program instead of the business school. I really like the business school, but I'm not sure that I'm competitive enough to get in. I've been trying to find internships in economics, but there aren't that many available.

Are there any places you know where I can do an internship in economics? I would really like to do paid work, but I'm willing to be an unpaid intern. I have taken AP Economics, AP Statistics, and Multivariable Calculus, so I have a good background in math and economics. I've also done a few computer science internship, so my technology background is fairly good.
