Hi, Im planning on asking for reconsideration.

I got a pretty good package, around 5k in loans per year, tuition is covered with grants, so I would have to pay just for room and board which is 13k a year.
The school says they meet the students full need once accepted.

I am expected to pay around 13k per year, but my custodial parent only makes 9k a year (and is over 60 y/o), my non custodial parent makes around 15k a year although is not planning on contributing and has a lot of credit debts.
None of them have properties or assets.

The school says that to ask for a reconsideration there must be a reason like new medical expenses, inflated income because of one payment etc etc...
I guess none of the options fit my case, what can I do?

And froshs are not allowed to live off campus.

Is this a CSS Profile school? Does it use NCP info as well?

Do your parents have assets? It seems like they must have assets otherwise your contribution would be zero or close to it.

What was your FAFSA EFC?

Are you saying that the loan you’re given can go towards room and board?

What is the EXACT breakdown of your FA package

What is the exact breakdown of your school’s Cost of Attendance…room, board, books, fees, personal expenses, travel.

Which school is this?

With a combined income of $22K per year, I’m not sure how the school came up with a family contribution of $13,000 (your room/board costs). Maybe I’m reading this incorrectly, but that seems VERY high to me.

The first thing you need to do is check yourself to make SURE that no mistakes were made on either the FAFSA or Profile. I would suggest you send copies of your parents’ tax returns, with a note saying their combined income is only $xxx. If you qualified for free/reduced lunch or some other means tested benefit, I would include that in the letter too. You can be honest with them…if they are your number one choice, say so. State that with a combined income from both parents of $22K, you are wondering how a family contribution of $13K per year is possible. Ask them to look carefully at your applications to determine if some error was made.

Tuition $41,500
Room and Board $12,800
Health Insurance $1000
Total $55,300

Grants:
(per year) 37,300, Health Insurance Included.
Loans: $5,000

Left to pay: $13,000

This is a CSS Profile school, they use NCP info.
None of my parents have assets, except a 16 y/o car.
NCP pays rent, custodial parent doesn’t pay rent, but none of them own a house, art, land or anything.

I’m pretty sure there are no mistakes at all, I’ve been checking over and over, I really want to attend this school, but this school is asking me to submit a "reconsideration form"which states that a reconsideration won’t be taken unless there is a reason like new medical expenses, inflation income because of one payment, loss of employment, divorce, death, incorrect financial information on application.

None of them are re married.

Would it be acceptable if I check the " incorrect financial info" box and send the same information again?
Thanks

Emphasize in your letter that the total of your parents’ income is $22,000 and send the supporting documentation to prove it (the completed 2010 tax form).
