Hi, I am currently a freshman that goes to a boarding school in RI. This summer, I've had tutoring to help raise my SAT scores. The only thing holding back my score is the Critical Reading, which is at an awful 490. I need help with tips for reading the long passages. I usually become bored or space out, which, I think is the reason my score is so low. Are there any recommendations for SAT books to buy that specifically helps with Critical Reading? Also, I would like to point out that a major problem is with inferencing. Please help.

Your biggest problem is not being interested… If you are not interested, you are not focused and don’t give it a proper attention. You HAVE to become interested. There is no other way.

SAT is not a nuisance. It is a test that gives you a lot of interesting passages and challenges your way of thinking. Critical Reading is something you can learn, but you need to put effort to it. You need to learn to focus. See it as something important. It is something you need to conquer to achieve your goal. Concentrate on what your higher score will allow you to achieve. Do you want to get it? Then you’ll have to put effort to it. There are just two ways:
- you put effort, work towards it and get it;
- you do nothing and get nothing.

Which outcome do you want? It is up to you.
