If your daughter likes holy cross and Villanova, she might like Providence College in RI

The bottom line that maybe everyone here is too polite to say is that upper-middle class kids, especially those attending private school are often very status conscious. Heck, even many public school kids are status conscious. Going to a SUNY or a state school in NJ is the last option for many in this group if you are from NY or NJ and have money. There is indeed a snob factor involved, but it is what it is.

I don’t have time to read the entire thread, but I want to mention Skidmore in case it hasn’t come up. I also like Franklin & Marshall, and both DS and I love U Rochester.

@ScaredNJDad
This was such an interesting thread from last fall. Do you have updates to share?

I don’t know if they were mentioned , but I would have added Allegheny and Juniata.

Revived from last fall? I read until the end hoping to find out where the student will matriculate lol. Just in case @ScaredNJDad is out there:

Kudos to the GC at your D’s school. My D had very similar stats (slightly higher GPA and decent ECs but not earth-shattering) and had a lot of the same schools on her list. Her GC pushed her to add more what I considered “reaches” but she was assured that those low reaches would come through given her stats. Only after coming onto CC did I realize the “4.0 white girl from the NE looking for a top 20 LAC” burden. Thank goodness because we altered the list quite substantially, especially given the chase for merit aid.

D was accepted to many of her match schools but was waitlisted at several common to your list: Colby, Bates, Middlebury…outright rejected at all her reaches. The one school her GC kept on her about was Wellesley and had her convinced she’d get in, which she did not (again, I think she was waitlisted but can’t quite remember). No harm, no foul, I didn’t believe any of these schools were true fits.

In the end, she went to the school that liked her and she is very happy there. Moral to the story: guidance counselors should be conservative in their estimations. Had we stuck with the GC proposed list, D would most likely be at a safety that she was not a good match for.

I revived the thread out of curiosity and empathy as I have a D with similar stats looking at LACs. In the end she applied ED to one of the schools on @ScaredNJDad list and was accepted. Hoping OP also has a great ending

The OP hasn’t been on cc since November. But it would be interesting to know the outcome!

Yes, it would

@ScaredNJDad
If you’re still around, would love to hear the end of this story!
