Need help

I don't know what to do. I am currently in a small cottage school. Last year I went to two different schools. I skipped tenth grade (had enough credits) and came to the cottage school for eleventh. BUT, everyone at my school is terribly vicious, the teachers don't teach, and the head of the school has no idea which way's up or down.

I have been told over and over how terrible it is to switch schools between junior and senior year. But I was thinking of homeschooling next year (senior) and taking most/all of my classes at the community college.

Is switching to homeschooling worth it, or should I just tough one more year out at the cottage school?

There was a similar thread a few months ago. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/home-schooling-college/816345-starting-homeschooling-middle-senior-year-advisible.html

Is a cottage school a sort of homeschool co-op?

I would be worried with your track record of going to two schools in ninth, then changing schools for eleventh one year later, then changing schools yet again. It shows that you are dissatisfied or flaky or motivated or intelligent, but doesn’t show which. You need to show the colleges you are applying for that you are stable and dedicated.

That said, my opinion is that it would be fine, as long as you explain why other than by trashing the other people involved - say it gives more opportunities, you wanted more challenging classes, etc. You would be well-served to explain your high school history in college apps whether or not you decide to homeschool/CC next year.

About the grade skip - why? “having enough credits” isn’t that good a reason - were you eager to get ahead? Was it an unpleasant atmosphere where you were? Why did you change schools so often?

I agree with GeekMom - having so many different school changes could be a concern. The reason for the two changes in ninth grade could be important too. Did you move?

What sort of ‘level’ are you on class-wise too (as in, what math courses will you finish, have you done any APs, etc?) and what sort of colleges are you aiming for (continuing at cc, state school, top __ college, ivy, etc)?

There are a lot of questions there, sorry. But if it does come down to staying at your current school though it’ll only be one more year! :)
