So I'm still a junoir in high school and I only just settle that I'll try go for an engineering Major at Purdue (1st choice as of right now). But I have a problem. I don't know what types of engineering majors should I do. Any advice on choosing?

Well do you have any idea what you want to do?

You could always go undecided. I was admitted to their Engineering program and it says “First Year Engineering” for my program.

Well you have to have some idea about what you like and don’t like. Give us an idea of what you like and then we can give you some advice.

More general stuff would be Mechanical or Electrical. It really all depends on what your most interested in.

Chemistry was my best subject last year and I have no problem understanding any math work.

Please expand. A paragraph or so…

Why do you want to be an engineer? Seems fun, parents are one/told you too, money, challenge, desire…
While chem was your best subject, what do you like the most in school?
What engineering projects do you look at and think, “Wow, I would love to be involved in that!”
ETC…
Stuff like this would help.

O_O If I wasn’t in AP english right now I wouldn’t have even felt like tpying up a paragraph but I better get an answer… Ok I figure engineering would be fun. So it would mostly be out of desire. What I like most in school? I would say anything BUT Biology and Geometry and Spanish. I had English, US History, alg 1 and 2, geometry, geograhpy, Biology, Chem, Physic, Spanish 1 and 2, basic electronic, and Orch. Orchestra would be my favorite because we play everyday (also we go on trips), Geograhpy was made favorite by the best teacher, and Chemistry would be thrid.

How do you picture engineering? What are your perceptions of it that makes you think its fun?

Hmmm, I always wanted to do something dealing with technology. And I really can’t elaborate more on the fun part. It just something I want to do. I thought it would be pretty cool to work on an engineering project. What I do know is that I will not do Civil Engineering or Arthecticucal (mispell) Engineering .

“I thought it would be pretty cool to work on an engineering project.”
What about it? Like before, what do you imagine an engineering project to be?

“What I do know is that I will not do Civil Engineering or Arthecticucal (mispell) Engineering.”
What do you not like about them?

1st question: Planning, designing, testing, combining math and science are what I imagine an engineering project to be.
2nd question: I’m not really into building and aritechet types stuffs.

It’s going to come down to what medium you want to work with. You’ve already ruled out buildings, bridges and infrastructure. What do you think about electrical systems, electronics, machinery, robotics, medical devices, energy generation, chemical processes, etc etc?

Well I really can’t narrow anything. I would have to work with each one to find out what it’s like. I have seen electraical system, computers, machinery. I’m going to do what poster #3 said. Are there any insight into what each engineering majors is like?

Oh cool that was pretty helpful.
