“should”->obligation
scientist: subject
obligation: to not reject folkway that at first seem silly (aka to not be arrogant)
why?

1) scientific qualifications (being an actual scientist) isn’t a reason to be ___
2) scientific qualifications (being an actual scientist) does not ____ bias

"(aka to not be arrogant__ )" = “isn’t a reason to be arrogant”

the first blank must be similar to arrogant. that leaves out all but b and d

the second word must complete the second sentence. being a scientist does not pursue bias? That doesn’t make any sense.

must be d. indeed, being a scientist does not legitimate bias. you might have been thrown off by the fact that legitimate is usually an adjective. the parts of speech of any answer choices must align with each other. eliminate is a verb, so legitimate is being used as a verb. it’s meaning can be derived pretty easily.

legitimate

leg

legal

law

ate=verb form

make law

make lawful/make just

Thank you so much. This was extremely helpful
