I am a rising senior and am in serious need of thought-out college guidance. The principal at my high school functions as a college guidance counselor, but his knowledge does not range outside of nearby colleges. I have basically been my own college counselor, using CC as a resource as well as the Princeton Review. However, I feel like I'm pulling most of the colleges I come up with out of the air. CC has been an indispensable resource, but I would greatly appreciate some more personal help.

I was wondering if any of you could suggest some professional, personal help that isn't extraordinarily expensive.

My suggestion is to buy a good college guide such as the US News Ultimate College Guide. Between that and CC, you should be able to do well at finding an appropriate college.

We used a private counselor for our D and found it was pretty much of a waste. the colleges she came up with were the same as the counselor-o-matic on Princetonreview.com

You might also consider the Stats Evaluations offered by College Confidential. The counselors are very experienced, and the cost is $89. You will need to provide a list of colleges in which you are interested, but they will also make suggestions.
