Need small theatre oriented liberal arts college

My middle son (he is in the middle of a "GT" sandwich), is looking for a smallish college, hopefully on the west coast. He is not academically oriented (neither was I and I am a psychotherapist now, hated education....hated school). He excels in theatre, english and used to be social studies (is NOW terribly boring taught lecture style, is killing social studies), has taken some AP classes...will probably end up as follows: 2.8-3.0 GPA, lots of roles in plays and workshops nationally, ACT 20 composite. He would really love UCLA (went to a workshop there last summer and they encouraged them to audition even tho grades not great, but I see zero possibility there). Any thoughts would be appreciated!!!

You should take this question to the Theater/Drama Majors sub-forum inside the College Majors Forum. Here is a quick link for you [Theater/Drama Majors - College Confidential](Theater/Drama Majors - College Confidential Forums)

Long story short: Students in the Arts need portfolios/performance credits more than they need high ACT/SAT scores, and in many cases the portfolio/performance credits can trump a GPA as well. Details vary by college/university.

Thanks! I appreciate your thoughts.

logicaldog, your S is a sophomore now, right? How can he have taken the ACT already? Maybe he can improve that score by applying himself to the effort of acquiring a large vocabulary with the thought that actors are likely to see very many vocab words and need to have a great sense of language and the subtleties of how it is used.

Anyways, Niagara University isn’t west coast, but they do have a nice little theatre program, and they are not as selective as many other schools.
