hi im drawing a bit of a blank for deerfields essay about what you would want your advisor to know about you. could anyone give me some suggestions about what i should add in the essay and what about myself i should write? any help would be great. note the essay is short only 300 word max so i want to know what i should add in it so it stays on topic.

this is the original question- Each student at Deerfield has a faculty advisor who guides his or her academic choices and serves as a personal counselor. Please write an essay on what you think would be valuable for your advisor to know about you. Include your goals, hopes and expectations, as well as the influences that have most shaped your life.

First, looking at Deerfield’s application, I don’t see a 300-word limit . . . are you sure about that part?

Second, look at it this way - this is just about your only opportunity to tell the AOs anything about yourself at all, other than personal achievements, which you wrote about separately. So, what do you want them to know about you? This is your chance to tell them how hard-working you are, or why you want to attend Deerfield, or why you want to go to boarding school at all. Or maybe the whole reason for going to boarding school is so you can become a [doctor or lawyer or indian chief] when you graduate from school . . . if so, then tell them that! There must be something about you that makes you different - what is it?

dodgersmom is right on

but i’m also wondering where you got the 300 word limit from. i don’t see it on gateway and gosh, that’s awfully short…

OP, you are looking at the word limit for the SHORT essay, which is “what is the best piece of advice that you have ever received?” the word limit for the long essay that you are referring to is 500 words

This is the same question they had for last year’s application…I hated it and had no clue what to write, so good luck!
