<p>So some stuffs recently gone down since my deferral and I've decided to write letters to both my regional admissions officer and the dean of admissions. I've already wrote a rough draft, but I am not sure if some of the stuff I've put in it is appropriate.</p>

<p>Format and formality are important, but ultimately, it’s going to come down to the substance of what you’re actually telling the admissions committee.</p>
<p>I decided to go ahead and update my regional officer through an email, and I did so shamelessly. Sure, a letter may have been more formal/professional, but I think what I included in that email is what matters most.</p>
<p>However, I should mention that my appeal/update to the Dean of Admissions will still be through a traditional, snail mail letter.</p>
<p>are you guys also sending a letter to the dean? i was worried that would be a little excessive, also i wouldn’t know what to write about. i just emailed a list of significant updates to my regional, though she hasn’t responded yet…</p>

<p>Do Columbia adcoms <em>ever</em> respond to unsolicited emails/letters such as these? If I were the Dean, I’d institute a no-response policy so you don’t inadvertently send mixed signals.</p>
<p>well i wouldn’t and don’t really expect a response, but i was pleasantly surprised by a response from my yale regional adcom, that’s all.</p>
