ok. I consider myself pretty laid back. I have lived in VT for 20 yrs. I have done the college thing twice before but this time I'm beginning to freak out. My D would love to go to either Bowdoin or Midd(Dad is alum and Midd loves to accept worthy VT kids). Her second choices are Trinity and Hamilton but I'm not feeling so fond of those at those two so the heat is on. Could someone give me some insight on her chances?

Stats: SAT's 1380; SAT II's mid to high 600's(can't remember), GPA 3.9 weighted; 4th of 140. Most competitive HS in VT.

3 Varsity sports for 3-4 yrs. Honors in Ice Hockey and Lacrosse. Played for Elite Lax team. Major role in two musicals, Part time job, community service, 4 Academic Honors(Best av for that course), Headmaster's award(citizenship, integrity, academics), Senior leader, Class officer 4 yrs.

Basically, it seems that this is just what everyone who wants to go to these colleges has. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Don't know enough about those schools to judge her chances, but a year after the process, one of the things that I've realized is that colleges are more the same than they are different. There will be fantastic people and opportunities at all of the schools that you mentioned. There are things that your daughter will love at each of these schools. Of course, if in the unlikely event that things do not work out, she can transfer.
Best of luck, and welcome to CC.

You raise an interesting point about Middlebury and VT students; if that is true I suspect a good chance there.

Otherwise, a good chance at Trinity; probably waitlist at the other 3 unless the hockey or lax is a factor, in which case a good chance wherever that applies.

Yermom, Does your daughter plan to play hockey or lacrosse in college? Will she be recruited? The answer to these questions will have a major impact on her chances at all of these schools. Either way, my guess is that her chances are good. As a recruited athlete, very good. I certainly agree with Carolyn, however, that a true safety is necessary for all students no matter what their chances. It also seems to me that Trinity is somewhat out of character with her top choices. I'd take a look at Colby, Bates, Bowdoin and Conn College and if she's interested in all girls schools, Smith and Holyoke. Although they are reaches, Amherst and Williams have been known to bend their SAT range for recruited athletes.
