I want to apply to two more schools for the January 15th deadline. I have it narrowed down to four: Villanova, Lafayette, F&M, and Richmond. These schools are all in my range/safety.
I am interested in majoring in business, economics, or psychology. Prestige is great, but what I am really concerned about is fit. I am more towards the introverted side. This is not to say I am a recluse, but rather I prefer watching a movie or going out to dinner than drinking at a party. I am not a big athlete, either. I don’t mind greek life, but I would prefer that it not totally dominate the social scene. What two would you recommend that I apply to?
OK, the title of this thread should have been “Which two of these four should I apply to?”
How did these four get on your list to begin with? What is attractive about each of them? Why only two, not three, or all four? What is wrong with the places that you have applied to that you feel you need to add two more?
Sorry if my title title is misleading in any way. I have a lot of other schools already, like ALOT, and only want two more schools that are closer to home (since many of my schools are far away). My school search has basically been looking for schools that are politically moderate or atleast not “ultra liberal” and that don’t have a dominating party/Greeks social life. I know that those two things don’t always go together, so my college search process has been a little difficult and required some compromises. I picked these four because they aren’t too far from home (Connecticut) and have programs I am interested in. Mostly business and psychology. There is nothing “wrong” with my other schools but I would like to have options, especially since a big chunk of my schools are reach schools
Villanova and Richmond both have excellent business schools. Richmond is a smaller school (more like a large LAC) so it will probably feel like it’s Greek life is more dominant. However, it’s very close to downtown Richmond which is a cool city. 15 minute ride at most, so it is easy to get off campus (share an uber) and hang out. Both are full of kids from the NE.
Richmond is much further than the others if proximity is a big factor. If 400+ miles isn’t a big deal i would go Nova and Richmond. if you want closer I would pick Nova and F&M. Lancaster is a lot nicer than Easton PA.
I visited all of those with my daughter except for F&M. Based on business/econ, I would say Richmond and Villanova. However, I thought Lafayette was very pretty with a nice community and may be a better fit based on what you said about your personality. All good choices.
Creighton University: It’s right on the other side of a highway from downtown Omaha, which has a fun nightlife district and a surprisingly dynamic business community (Warren Buffett). It’s mid-size and somewhat urban, like some of the others on your list.
Santa Clara University: mid-size, suburban, in Silicon Valley, so some pretty good companies nearby, better weather than just about anywhere. Good luck!
@TTG
That’s funny you mentioned Santa Clara! I actually applied and got in EA! I really liked it when I first looked at it and can’t wait to go out for an admit day.
Good luck @hhootle ! It would be great if you could update us with your results and what you think when you go on any accepted student days. I think you will have some great choices!
