Need your advice

I was rejected from Yale, unfortunately, but I am still as determined as ever to get in; I was thinking about maybe taking a gap year and applying again next year.

The problem is, the gap-year program I have in mind is essentially a one-year academic program for college Freshmen (at the Rothberg International school of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem). The expectation is that graduates of this program will then move on to be admitted as Sophomores to other colleges.

But, seeing as Yale's transfer admit rates are very low -- can I choose to apply again as a freshman and regard the Rothberg program as a gap-year for all purposes as opposed to a college year? In general, does taking an academic curriculum during a gap-year preclude one from being admitted as a freshman?

Your thoughts and advice will be appreciated!

You might want to do a search in the Parents Forum for "andison". This parent wrote about her son not being accepted at ANY college the first time out, then being accepted at MIT when he applied during his gap year. There is lots of good wisdom about gap years in this thread about what to do with your year and how you should pick a different set of colleges to apply to the second time around. It is highly unlikely to be accepted at a college that denied admission the first time around. If you are taking a gap year just to give Yale another chance, it probably isn't worth it. I know that isn't what you want to hear; check out the thread for a more detailed discussion.
