"Nerdiest" LACs?

^ Anherst.

I would be far more likely to say “L-A-C” rather than “LAC” as one word, so I would use an, not a, as the article. Of course, nobody’s arguing that it would be “a liberal arts college.” It all depends on how one chooses to pronounce LAC.

Also, I know Reed is very nerdy and intellectual, but I get the feeling that students there are so caught up in academics that they don’t really have too much time for anything else.

I’d be interested to hear more thoughts on the intellectual environment at Pomona.

I’ve never heard nor said LAC as a word - only spelled out. Therefore, it’s “an L-A-C” for me. It might be regional. The idea of going to “a LAC(k) college” just wouldn’t seem right to me sounded out.

And I didn’t go to one. I went to a big state U. My oldest goes to one, but in general, I work in a high school (math/science) so that’s where my experience comes from.

I’m not at all picky about grammar (more or less). I’m just used to answering questions when people ask. ;)

You may find this string helpful in your question regarding Pomona College. My daughter attends and is so very impressed with her fellow students.

Thanks for that link, artrell. It was very helpful. =)
