which colleges are similar to UChicago or Swarthmore with regards to environment ("celebration of nerdiness") in the liberal arts? Possible matches/safeties for a "typical ivy reject" would be especially appreciated.

I don't know if Haverford is nerdy, but I know a pretty nerdy person who decided to go there! My son, who is a happy nerd at UChicago almost went to Grinnell. How about Macalaster?

Just thought of a couple more--Reed, Oberlin. . .

Grinnell and Oberlin sound like they would fit the bill. However, Carleton is king.

Grinnell, Amherst, Johns Hopkins (yes the lib arts are actually very good), Reed, Hendrix College, Beloit

Schools for typical Ivy Rejects? I doubt that would be Chi or Swat. If you aspire to Ivy, try Cornell or Penn.

thanks to everyone who posted!
Oberlin had a "2004 All-Night Bardic Reading", enough said.
& forgot to mention but i'd also love to attend St. John's.
bettina, sorry that was unclear; I meant that all the ivies, uchicago, swarthmore etc. are probable rejections as I'm not too special so I need safety schools :)

guys come on arizona state, those nerds just can't leave those books alone! hahahahaha, nothing personal against them or anything

any top college will be quite intellectual. Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, Pomona, Carleton, Oberlin, Reed, Wesleyan...etc

MIT would fit that bill.
