If anyone can offer a bit of insight or advice, much would be appreciated.

I graduated high school in 2007. Had mostly A's and some B's, and slacked off in last semester of high school and got like 2 C's. Overall GPA is 3.85 though. SAT's taken at the time combined was 2070/2400.

After high school, I enlisted in the Marine Corps. Served my 4 years honorably and now I'm applying to the spring 2012 semester at Columbia School of General Studies. I know the application deadline is in a few days, and I wouldn't have waited but I waited until my 4 years were up to make the decision to apply, and it ended 2 weeks ago.

A few questions...

I don't care about the argument of CC vs GS. To me its the same. However, I did notice many threads in which people who applied earlier had already been accepted and some put on wait lists. Is it possible that that the admissions is completely closed and that I have 0 chance of admission for waiting so long?

Also, will my past grades, plus the fact that I did no college in the service affect my admissions?

Any insight would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Well, here’s the thing. Through reading these boards, it became evident to me that GS looks favorably upon those enlisted in the army. Your high school credentials demonstrate that you’re an able student. That being said, I think the prudent thing would be to always grant as much time and attention to your application as possible, and through the polishing process, reduce errors and convey the message you intend to. That being said, as long as the application deadline is still open, you are still free to apply. Be forewarned, though, that you will probably receive a really late decision. I applied early-action and submitted my application a month and a half before the deadline and only got a phone interview two days ago. Be prepared to wait. But I still think you would be better served by waiting and submitting an impeccable package with a great essay if you were willing to wait another semester, and that would increase your chances for admission.

Have you taken the SATs again? Are your old scores still considered current" If yes, I think you should apply now. Can you pull it al together? You need to list all of your awards and write a "high steppin’, low crawlin’ big-green-gun-club essay.

My SAT’s are still valid. I pretty much have to apply now since they will probably expire by the next admissions process time period.

Also, I got in small minor disciplinary action while in the USMC. Nothing big worth noting and nothing that really affected my career. Should I mention that in my essay in case they ask me about it later on? It’s not reflected on my DD-214 or nothing. Thanks again everyone

disclose everything just so there are no surprises. You may be mistaken about your SAT , I graduated in 2005 and mine are still valid so I’m sure yours are as well.
