Nespresso coffee machines - recommendations, thoughts, which machine to get?

If I “make him” change from the 34 YO machine husband is using, yep, he wants the little Mr. Coffee. IF I happen to see a sale on the Nespresso over the holidays, I may try it for him anyway. We’ll see. I think I’ve eliminated Keurig. I agree with people who say it doesn’t taste very good.

Again, not a coffee expert, but I think if I had a Nespresso I’d also want just a regular coffee maker/brewer. My regular brewer being a daily-take-it-to-work cup and the Nespresso for the weekend or a bonus treat. I

I guess I also wouldn’t want the expense of a Nespresso on a daily basis. I get that it’s so much less than a Starbucks stop but I don’t do that on a regular basis either - just occasional treat!

What is the typical cost of a Nespresso pod?

I have seen prices anywhere from $.25 to $2 depending on what brand and where you buy them. Typically, it is about $.70.

I have a Keurig Duo which I love. Brewed lot of coffee (thermal pitcher) OR use a Keurig pod. During WFH, I make a pot every day, back in the old days (before Covid) I’d make a Keurig pod to go in the car.

Also have a tiny Nespresso - Essenza. Excellent for delicious espresso, which we enjoy in the afternoon.

How big is the Essenza? Some claim it is “travel size.” Can it be easily lugged around? Thanks!

(Considering buying one for kid and her BF because they love good coffee when they travel but hate coffee shop prices. )

Original Line cost per pod is typically between $0.70 and $0.75, with some special editions costing more.

At home I have a Creatista machine which actually steams the milk. The separate frother does just that, doesn’t steam. I received one of the frothers free as a Nespresso bonus, probably due to the amount of coffee I was buying.

The Essenza Mini is approx 4 x 8 x 13 (W x D x H)

I take one of my machines in the 5th wheel, but have never brought it along when really traveling.

I think every place I’ve stayed in Europe had a Nespresso, which is how I got started with them in the first place some 17 years ago.

Thanks! The kids mostly stay at Airbnb type of rentals, so no Nespressos unless the places are quite fancy, which is not likely in their budgets.

The only time we had a Nespresso in our hotel room here in the US was when we lucked out to get a cheap rate at a Four Seasons. Never had them in our European hotel rooms, bummer. We got our machine after a demo at a Williams Sonoma. The machine now lives at the kids’ place. I want it back, hence the gift idea.

Ah. It would be a great take along for car trips or maybe one by air if there’s room in a bag.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some bargains before Christmas.

It’s great to lug around in the car, but I wouldn’t air travel with it

I get the Peet’s at costco.com for. 45c or the Lavazzo on Amazon for a similar price. The Peet’s are very equivalent (quality wise) to the Nespresso brand, Lavazzo is pretty good too.

Wow, that’s a great price for the Peet’s capsules on Costco! D2 seems to prefer the flavored capsules though.

That price is only when they have the $ off promo… about 4 months of the year

Bumping up this thread because I’m trying to learn more. Thinking of getting a Nespresso for S and DIL. Any opinions on who manufactures it - I mean on Amazon I’m seeing some Breville ones, De’Longhi, etc. - are these legit or is there a true “Nespresso” unit??

My understanding is that Nespresso used to manufacture all their own machines but in recent times have partnered with various manufacturers to make them instead. They concentrate on basic design and coffee procurement, development and sales. At one time, machines with the same name would look different depending on who’s factory they come from. It seems that they’ve pared down their models so that may not be the case any more. Some manufacturers seem to make specific models though that was not always the case.

Both are legit. Here is an article explaining.

We got a Nespresso machine as a gift from MIL but she got it directly from Nespresso so I’m not sure who the manufacturer is. I got my D the Nespresso VertuoPlus a couple years ago on sale at Williams Sonoma. Hers is made by Breville. Neither of us have had any problems with ours. If you get one, make sure to register it with Nespresso. Their customer service is amazing.

Thank you that article was pretty helpful! So brand (De’Longhi or Breville - or Nespresso branded) doesn’t really matter - they are basically made to the tee the same per MODEL. But each of those manufacturers also have some units that are unique to their brand.

So now I just have to figure out which of the main models I want to keep an eye out for!

They are down to 29.99 at Costco.com (delivered) great deal, get them asap because the deal will disappear soon!

Peet’s pods were $25 for 80 in-store at costco. They aren’t my favorite, but my daughter uses them and likes them well enough.

The first Nespresso machine I got was made by Nespresso. My current machines are delonghi and Breville. All of them seem to perform just fine.

Bloomingdale’s email today showed a Nespresso De’Longhi Vertuoplus deluxe on sale for $129, regularly $239. It’s a special for today only. Comes with frother and 14 capsules. Not sure if this is what you’re looking for or not.
