Just received our ED II decision from BC and the financial aid package left us 15,000 above the figure we came out with on the net price calculator. Needless to say, we"re shocked and disappointed. I was prepared for a reasonable variable but not this. Wondering if this is unusual and is it even worth appealing.
Are you self employed? Do you own a business?
My husband is self employed.
That could impact the calculation as some schools disallow certain business deductions that are allowable under tax law.
Other things to check…did you add any 401K contributions back to income when you filled out the NPC? Schools will do that, reason being it’s a choice to fund your 401K rather than college. (don’t blame the messenger)
Regardless, call BC financial aid and have a director walk through the details with you. Good luck.
Self employed often find that the net price calculators are not accurate. There are deductions allowed by the IRS that are added back in as income. BC has been noted to do so. But as stated above, call them…they will explain.
