Network engineering technology at UMD

I’m a freshman currently in the Computer Science program but I recently found out that that’s not the major I’m looking for. CompSci involves a lot of programming which I don’t like very much.

I intended to get into a major that features networking, network engineering technology, system administration, learning about protocols, and all that. I basically intend on being a Network Manager or IT Manager when I get older. If you google a little about a Network or IT Manager does, then you will know what I’m talking about. Essentially, I’m looking for an IT major.

Programming is just something I can’t work with and much rather be in a major about what I described above. If someone could suggest a major that is most suited to that, I would really appreciate it!

I’m not going to take the time to google what you are trying to describe, but I can take a stab in the dark…not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but what about this

This may be of interest as well

Thanks for your fast response. Im actually thinking of switching to the Information Systems major since that seems the best.

I am dissapointed though that there isn’t a Information Technology major. Thanks!

Note that the IS major is within the Smith School of Business, so it is going to be very competitive for internal transfer admissions. You can only apply once, so make sure you have all your ducks in a row before you do so…http://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/programs/undergraduate-programs/admissions/non-smith

Best of luck to you!
