Can you find neurology residency training programs in most hospitals? Or are they in very few places?

See the thread with links to residency info. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=3192731&highlight=residency#post3192731

I already have visited that site, but they really didn't tell me much on the hospitals that they are available at.

My question is simple, are neurology residencies common enough to be offered at any hospital or clinic?

http://www.acgme.org/adspublic/

Click on "list of programs by specialty" use the drop down menu to get to Neurology.

The AAMC Careers in Medicine page (access is limited to current medical students) says there are 122 programs, that offered 160 PG-1 positions and 379 PG-2 positions in 2007.

So there are a fair number, but they usually have small resident class sizes.

I'm guessing that most hospitals in the country do not offer any residencies at all. Among those that do ("teaching hospitals"), certainly I cannot imagine any of them not offering neurology.

Actually, there are not that many neurology programs. Many smaller hospitals offer training in only a few fields. For example, there are a dozen internal medicine programs in Connecticut, but only two neurology programs.

But odd question. If you are a medical student thinking about neurology, talk to the faculty at your school about where to consider applying. The ACGME list tells you all the approved programs, but this is only the first step in making a list of places.
