After scanning the forum on acceptance to MIT I've decided that, while my grades are good, most likely I would not be admitted there. With that in mind I'd like to begin looking at other colleges with great neuroscience and psychology majors. I plan to pursue a career based heavily on the human brain in both scientific and "practical" ways. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong majors so feedback on that would be appreciated. Thanks.

So what do you like about MIT that makes you want to go there? There are a lot of schools with good neuroscience and psychology departments but they can be narrowed down if you elaborate on what else you want in a school (size, student types, location, etc).

Some preliminary suggestions:
WUSTL (they have a major called PNP: Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology with the focus of examining the brain from different perspectives)
Brown
UCLA

You may also want to look at Columbia and Duke.

When you look at neuroscience programs make sure they offer a BS degree not a BA degree.
Most BA programs are really glorified psychology programs.

^ I disagree.

Johns Hopkins neuroscience degree conferring program offers a BA, not a BS.

Yet it’s associated with the #3 Hopkins graduate Neuroscience program in the world behind Harvard and Stanford.

Hopkins neuroscience is really good. I have a lot of friends who are neuroscience majors at Hopkins…

I’m taking a really good class called Introduction to Cognitive Psychology. Check out Cognitive Science too.

Pitt is a nice, (possibly cheap) safety…it has a great neuroscience program
