Neuroscience PhD Fall 2016

I know there are a bunch of these posts, but I’m applying for Neuroscience PhD programs for the fall of 2016, and I would like a little advice on my application. I know there are no “safety” schools, but I picked programs that have research that I would love to be involved with. Now that application season is here, I’m getting really nervous and thinking that I may not have enough schools that are within reach for me. If anyone has any suggestions for making my application stronger or can “chance” me for these schools, I would be very grateful. Here are my stats:

Undergrad: Top public school, very good in biomedical sciences
Cumulative GPA: 3.53
GRE: 161 (87%) V; 162 (83%) Q; 4.0 (56%) AW
Research Experience: 2.5 years of undergrad research experience in a neuroscience lab, plus 1 year post-bac research fellowship in neuroscience

I had an independent research project that led to 3 poster presentations and 1 first-authored publication (just submitted last week). I have already secured my letters of rec, which I believe will be strong.

Here are the programs that I will be applying to:

Medical University of South Carolina- Neuroscience Institute
Emory University- GDBBS
WasU St. Louis- DBBS
Northwestern University- NUIN
Georgetown- IPN

I would definitely add more schools. Talk to your professors about their suggestions. I know U Miami expanded their NS program a few years ago.
