WB, Congratulations to you and your son!!! Hope you all celebrate tonight!

WB: congratulations to you and your son!! and it’s not even Thanksgiving yet…please tell!!

The school is Hendrix in Arkansas. I didn’t mention which one because most people haven’t heard of it. We were blown away when we visited in October. Great campus, really nice friendly people and great food…

actually have heard of it; actually investigated it last year and one of the CC kids is there (can’t remember which one)…have heard very good things!!

That’s wonderful! I am so glad it’s a fit and a YES!

It is supposed to be an excellent school. As an oldtimer here I can tell you that it is valuable1212 that attended Hendrix. You can google her valuable’s posts.

Great news, Warriorboy. Congrats!

Warriorboy I have a dear friend whose husband is the mens soccer coach at Hendrix and her son is a Sr there and loves it. Congrats a hundred times over it’s a CTCL too! YAY!!!

What about west coast schools for B+ students (1300 SAT score/1900 with writing)

CarolAd, Take a look at Santa Clara, Willamette, Lewis and Clark, University of Puget Sound, University of the Pacific. For publics, I think Oregon would be possible, also the lower-tier UCs and all the CSUs.

CarolAd: Add

Linfield in McMinnville OR My 3.6 26 ACT D got 11K a year offered there
Gonzaga in Spokane WA
Saint Mary’s College of CA in Moraga
Santa Clara U in Santa Clara CA
Loyola Marymount in LA
California Lutheran in Thousand Oaks

for publics Western Washington and Washinton State as well as Oregon State may be as good or better bets than CA publics.

Also Chapman University in Orange, CA

WB–congrats! You must feel enormous relief! Is it his first choice as well as yours?

MaryAnn–best of luck with PC. Perhaps an excellent interview nd essay will help him over the possible GPA hurdle. When a school’s stats go up, sometimes it is a sign of increasing popularity as a safety and kids who make it clear it is their first choice can get an edge.

^^^ Last I checked, PC didn’t do interviews. :(

PC is well known as a safety for BC, and to some degree for Holy Cross. (And Stonehill is the safety for Holy Cross and PC!) PC even joked in their info session that kids should be sure to proofread their essay, because they have read great essays that ended, “… and that’s why I’m sure Boston College is the perfect school for me.” lol

PC does do “informational interviews”
[Providence College - Personal Interviews](http://www.providence.edu/Admission/Campus+Visits/Personal+Interviews.htm)

They seem to end Nov. 13th but they might have something else, day visit, etc. to show interest.

Thanks for info about PC. I did not realize there were interviews. An admissions councelor did go to my son’s high school and my son has been e-mailing him.

Lafalum84 - I though Stonehill was as selective or even more selective then PC.

Any help would be appreciated…any advise…

The truth is that an ACT of 20 puts her below the 25% as far as standardized testing for both Cortland and Plattsburgh. I don’t know how heavily they weight these scores, and I cannot comment further. I would think that those familiar with SUNYs would still need to know if your D took honors classes, any APs and how many of them, how many years of math, foreign lanuage, how many lab sciences etc. What do you mean by precalc and Italian-college courses? A good starting point for some other schools would be to speak with her guidance counselor. Perhaps you and your D could meet with her counselor.

Thank you.
D took 4 years of math (college level this year - 3 credits) - which she is carrying a 100 avg at the moment, 4 years of Italian (again taking college level this year - 3 credits), 3 years of science with labs -
D will be a teachers assistant this year in the local Elementary school (she is going to college for early childhood ed.)

Are you saying that your D is in precalc but is getting 3 college credits for it? If that is the case, wow, I had never heard of that. I always thought of precalc as a high school course. Anyway, her ACT score is low for Cortland and Plattsburgh. I would have her meet with her GC and have a plan B. Perhaps she could still take the ACT or SAT again, or apply to some schools that do not require SATs and ACTs. Look at fairtest.org for such a list of schools. Then look at those schools to see how much they might gap as far as financial aid, if you are going to qualify. Also, you might have her explore going to a community college for a year or two. Also, you might look for schools where an ACT score of 20 puts your D in their midrange. You might want to contact her GC for help with that. Also, you can use the collegeboard website for some help with selecting those schools too.

Editing this:
3 schools that you might check out, but this is off the top of my head, and I do not know about their elementary ed program is Champlain College (a 20 just makes their 25% so it is still a reach, but is in VT), and at Lenoir Rhyne in NC she would be their midrange. Another school to check out in NC would be Queens University of Charlotte. Your D’s ACT score would just make the lower end of midrange there too. As far as FA, that is something that you would need to look into further. I chose to name these schools because you have HP on the list, and Plattsburgh on the current list as well.
