I'd found out on the NYT that there will be a revised bio exam for 2012-2013. I was scheduled for AP physics and bio for sophomore year, but I decided to switch to Ap Chem because I think less memorization and more focus on concepts would be good for me. I'm sort of unsure about this b/c most of my friends are doing bio/physics. Does anyone have any information on the new exam? Idk if I should stick with Chem or go back to bio since it'll likely take the bio teachers @ my school some time to adapt... Thanks in advance!

Well it depends. Would you rather take a test that’s more memorization based or a test that’s focused on the big concepts and experimental concepts of biology? If the latter, then delay until '12-'13.

When you put it that plainly, definitely the second! Decision made, thank you!

I do wonder how they’ll make the review books though.

Definitely take Bio Ap test in 2013 (or whenever the revised test is). I took AP Bio this year and like 50% of the stuff on the test was straight memorization. Btw, AP Physics is not a memorization class and is very conceptually based (idk if you meant just bio)

I’m going to take it this year, just because no one will know what the new one will be like, so no review books for it either. Also the score distribution will be the same so it shouldn’t make too much of a difference which you take, the only thing that matters is which is more similar to college bio.

McGraw-Hill’s 2012 5 Steps to a 5 AP Bio book is already out.

I have to applaud them for jumping the gun …

Exam in 2012 is still the same. Exam in 2013 is different. AP already posted some of the content changes so books should be out by Jan 2013 (if the world is still around then :p)

■■■■■! 10 char

I mean, I didn’t mean to be biased towards the 2013 test. Maybe you do have the willpower or natural ability to remember more information, take more notes, etc. to do better on the 2012 test. Maybe remembering more facts will help you later for college level biology classes. Maybe with less topics to cover on the 2013 test, the curve will be more harsh. It’s all subjective.

Id rather take it now because teachers will be able to teach it better because they have taught it previously.

^ I really hope not about the curve!

Eek…memorizing drives me crazy. I will literally start crying if there’s that much memorization.

We have good teachers at my school, so I’m hopeful that they’ll be able to adapt to the curriculum.
One of the teachers was talking to a student while I was taking a test, and they were rushing like crazy to get all the topics done, so I think the changes will probably be for the better.

Edit: Here’s the new curriculum posted by college board http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/ap/10b_2727_AP_Biology_CF_WEB_110128.pdf

Seems a lot more interesting and less cramming. I’m definitely doing 2012-2013 now
