New CC Feature - Stats Profiles!

Wow, this is nice!

P.S. I think it would be better to list high school graduating year also . . . a lot of people are mixing up college and high school years.

Cool! I was wondering about this since I really don’t care about the What are my Chances? threads for schools I’m not interested in. . .

What about AP exam scores? It seems like those should be with SAT/SATIIs

I agree with charlestonchew about a blank space for schools not listed. I couldn’t find one of mine on there. also what about an option for homeschoolers in “type of school”?

Eh, they don’t count for much. Anyway, you don’t know how many APs their schools offer, and it would discriminate against IBers or those in schools that don’t offer AP.

Ah- I’ve just been seeing them on the Chances threads a lot, and thought they were more important. . .

I really like this section, but it would be even more helpful if current college students could post their stats. It doesn’t help me much to know the stats of those who are applying to a certain school. It would be better to know the stats of those who got in.

Hey it doesn’t work…I filled in a lot of info on mine but none of it shows up on my stats profile, what am I doing wrong, no one else seems to be having a problem.

This is fantastic. It makes me feel inferior, but I will definitely pass this tool on to underclassmen. Hahahaha… I’m going to become one overbearing parent when the time comes.

Could you add a feature, though? When searching for other students applying to the same colleges, how about showing shades/tints of red or green to denote your relative position vs. each person’s test scores?

Edit: And also, the ability to resort rows by columns, ascending/descending?

Edit 2: And, and, and, and show yourself in the student searches, so when sorting by columns, the data will be easier to judge at a glance!

But wait. How do you plan on defending this from liars?

Karch, you are taking this way too seriously. This is a completely optional website.

  1. Assume that everything you read on a semi-anonymous web forum is a lie
  2. The stats profiles are optional and they don’t actually get you anything so there is no risk of lying, because there is no point in lying

and to answer your previous post, this isn’t a ranking tool. It’s an information tool.

What MC said…

Karch, I wouldn’t get too hung up on personal rankings - elite school admissions are WAY too complex to reduce to simple stats, and I’d be reluctant to encourage stats comparisons to any greater extent than is already there. Even that may be too much…

Mallomar, did you check the “private” box on your entries? That would make them invisible.

Whoah okay okay, Mallomar. I’m not psycho over this tool. I was just looking at this from the perspective of a developer.

I’m out of this thread.

ROGER…how about stats for TRANSFER students. Can you at least include Class of 2009 and beyond?

Roger, yes, I realized my mistake–I checked boxes thinking they meant “show” rather than “hide.”

is there a glitch right now or something b/c i keep trying to edit my college graduation year, and it keeps coming up as 2011. and everyone else’s looks that way too… however, when you search, it does come up with the right years…

We’re checking the college class year setting - it works for Class of 2011, which is 99% of the population posting right now, but may not work properly for other years.

I think a lot of transfer students would be interested in this. If you would include them into this tool I’m sure it will get a very good response

a few suggestions: how about putting AP/IB scores to date, allowing people to put in rank and class size instead of a dropdown menu (1 out of 20 is not as impressive as 1 out of 5000) and adding a place for extra information, like im first gen to college and hispanic, but there isnt any spot for that. otherwise, very nice job on the stats thing, its a great idea

I think people would be interested in past applicants’ stats. After all, [this</a> thread](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=215577]this”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=215577) got quite a few responses. It’s sometimes more useful to compare your stats with the stats of accepted applicants than to post in a chances thread. Of course, it’s still FAR from being a perfect way to figure out if you can get in, but it does help.

So if past applicants could fill this out and put in whether they were accepted, rejected, and/or waitlisted, it would be nice. Also, maybe there could be a place where they can enter what scholarships they received.

Past applicants can fill it out (I did), but you can’t search for their stats.
