NUS is National University of Singapore.

I think CFNC’s application, which a lot of NC schools public and private use, is great. It saves your data so that when you start a new application a lot of the basics can already be filled in, and it tracks once your application is under counselor review.

While it’s great that the Common App makes it easier on students, I can’t help but think that this is contributing to the mania of college admissions: students apply to more schools because admissions is uncertain and it’s easier to apply, which makes it harder for the colleges to predict who will attend, which affects how many they accept/waitlist, which increases anxiety throughout the process, which leads students to apply to more schools, etc. It’s a vicious cycle that I thought was mostly confined to the really selective schools (top 30-40), but it seems to be spreading like wildfire to others. In a way, joining the Common App is an easy way for them to chase selectivity and drive down acceptance rates, as U Chicago, Columbia, and countless others have discovered.

There seems to be a bit of controversy around the Yale-NUS collaboration. If you’re willing to get through this piece, it’s an interesting read:
