College of Liberal Arts & Sciences New Core Curriculum (2015)

I have been trying to sort through the changes in the core for the incoming class and I think the new core will lead to more academic flexibility and increase the ability for students to double major.

A-The only new requirement is students students will take at least two courses designated as diversity.
Students are required to select one course in two of the three following areas:
Diversity 1: Courses that focus on dominant, minority, or impoverished groups in the United States; also courses focusing on the experiences of minorities in Western Europe as marginalized people.

Diversity 2: Courses that provide a focus on womens experiences and/or highlight the relationship between gender and culture

Diversity 3: Courses that provide a focus on the culture, economics, politics or ecology of societies and nations other than those of Europe and the United States. Service learning courses, internships, and other experiential courses may be applied toward this requirement, Study abroad courses may also be applied toward this requirement.

B-Unchanged requirements , ACS 2 courses, Ethics 1 course , Fine Arts 1 course ,2 Core Science courses each with a lab ,Theology 2 courses.

C-Changes (reductions in required courses):

Foreign Language: 2 courses are unchanged but requirement can be met with Passing a proficiency test (Not available previous) or attaining a 4-5 score in the high school AP test.

Math: 1 course , vs 2 previous
Social Science 2 vs 3 previous (Econ , Geography, Sociology,Psych , Political Science)
Philosophy 1 vs 2 previous
History 1 vs 2 previous
Literature( Writing Sophomore Seminar) 1 vs 2 previous required

I believe this make 3 to 6 less required core classes depending if you test out of Foreign Language and meet a diversity requirement via service learning, internship or study abroad.
