Actually, Bryn Mawr would be a very good, more affordable option (through merit award) if Chicago was the original “dream” school. BMC is serious academically, with terrific resources, especially in the sciences. BMC doesn’t have a Phi Beta Kappa chapter, rumored to be the case because Mawrters are so smart, to try to distinguish among them is a fool’s errand. I still recall the “Insider’s Guide” to Colleges describing the “cussed individualism” of BMC students.
The BiCo community means BMC students can take as many classes as they like, and even major, at Haverford. The two schools are one mile apart, with frequent “Blue Bus” transportation between the campuses, and full meal options on both campuses. Add Swarthmore as part of the Tri-Co community and you have a smorgasbord of academic options, though Swarthmore is less convenient to get to than Hford. Philly is easily accessible by commuter train, and Bryn Mawr’s Gothic style dorms and academic buildings are gorgeous.
Regardless of whether UChicago is a financial option, you need to look at other colleges. Not knowing your parents financial concerns and limitations makes this a bit difficult. It is time to have a candid discussion with your parents to determine exactly what their contributions will be.
Your stats are excellent. Congratulations on your achievements! This is still very early junior year for you. With a 34 Act in your pocket and a 4.0 you are well positioned for excellent school choices. In addition to looking at schools which offer merit awards, If your testing is complete early, you can turn your focus to private scholarships and helping bring down the cost of tuition. Prepare for the PSAT. With your ACT scores you will likely be NMSF. (FYI if you achieve National Merit and that is an automatic 4k at UChicago.) Additionally, UChicago does offer some merit scholarships, though they are difficult to get. https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/costs/scholarships
You may find that applying to UChicago is still an option if you were to receive NMF and perhaps other scholarships.
