It seems unfortunate that the school is apparently charging the fee for Computer Science courses that are listed in both the College and in Engineering. Yes, and as someone said, for courses that are entirely lecture and have no “lab” to cover. You could have a full schedule of courses all listed as part of the College and still pay? Sounds pretty aggressive in including whatever possible under this fee. Oh, well.

It is my understanding that the fees are going to pay for additional equipment that will benefit everyone, be they College or SEAS. As the parent of a fourth year SEAS CS major, I would have a really hard time understanding why the College CS majors weren’t being assessed when they are definitely using the same resources as the SEAS CS majors. I’m not thrilled about the fees either, but they’re not going away.

The U. said they would adjust financial aid to take into account these new fees. They really are technology fees, not lab fees.

Here is a direct link to the rationale behind the increase in fees.

And yes, financial aid will be adjusted when appropriate, but initial awards will be based upon current tuition only. Any fees will have to be paid when due on August 22nd and then additional aid may be awarded.

The fee is applied before classes start? That’s pretty dumb. It should be after add/drop.
