New Forums at College Confidential

In response to member feedback and also watching topic popularity, we’ve added several new topics:

[College</a> Majors](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=498]College”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=498) - this is a new category that will hold discussion topics for undergrad majors. Notably, we have created a new [Musical</a> Theater Major](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=501]Musical”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=501) topic. We’ll have a few other forums in here, like Engineering, Business, Arts, and Other. If we see a particular major generating a lot of interest (as we did with Musical Theater), we’ll create a dedicated forum for it. (In the meantime, please don’t bug us for an “Anthropology” forum, or other individual majors. :))

We’ve added a forum for discussing [Internships</a>, Careers, and Employment](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=502]Internships”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=502), and in our Professional and Grad School category we’ve added [Graduate</a> School](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=497]Graduate”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=497) to the existing Law, Business, and Med School forums.

Please check out these new forums and feel free to contribute to the discussion - we’re listening to your input!

How about a general “Ivy League” forum in addition to the separate school forums?

I don’t see why a major like “musical theatre” got its own sub-forum while larger majors like “political science” got grouped into the “other” area.

Musical Theater: there has been no other major which has developed a comparable community (even though other majors may be far more popular from an actual enrollment standpoint). Musical theater had an enormous volume of posts and a large number of members regularly involved in the “musical theater thread”. This thread was the most-viewed topic here, but was unwieldy and disorganized due to multiple dicussions mixed in the same linear thread.

If we see a big political science (or CompSci, etc.) community forming, we’ll split it out of the general topics.

How about the Ivy League schools are rejoined with the CC top 25 schools and don’t get their own section. Maybe a specific UC Forum for the UCs instead of UCLA/UCB in the CC top colleges?

Oh and I love the new majors forums, a truly necessary addition.

In reply to Calidan

There are only certain majors which affect the process of applying to college to study them. In other words, if you want to major in poli sci in college, the college application process will be no different than if you want to major in English. However, the process for applying to musical theatre programs is very different than the regular college application process.

Partly because the process is so different, the typical fairly competent high school guidance counselor can give students who want to major in poli sci in college good advice, but most are completely clueless when it comes to how to apply to top programs in musical theatre, dance, voice, etc. So,it’s just harder to get good information.

Well said, Jonri.

The other UC’s are under the Alphabetical Colleges section. I think UCB/UCLA fit more with the other “CC’s Top” schools than the other UC’s.

I wouldn’t mind a general UC section. There are issues that affect all of the UCs. For example, Will the Governor reneging on his support for Public colleges affect your decision to go to school in California?

Roger -

Please add U of Iowa to the list of individual schools.

I have suggested this before…how bout a Study Abroad forum…why? I think it would be a good place for sutdents to ask study abroad specific questions and also for students who are currently abroad to talk to other students abroad who are dealing with the same issues (culture shock, etc, etc). I just thought it would be a good idea.

Second the study abroad forum.

AND the addition of Iowa to the alphabetic list of schools.

Roger, in your free time  could you please add Otterbein College to the alphabetic list of colleges? Thanks!

I must have missed it but where is the University of California at Davis, or UCMerced listed. Where do you go to add a college you can’t find?

<p>…</p>

I still think we need a “Summer Programs” forum. Please Please Please

UC Davis: <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=508”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=508</a>
UC Merced: <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=518”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=518</a>

A Summer Programs forum would be really helpful.

Third agreeing on summer programs =)

Summer programs would be a really good idea for a new forum!

[Summer</a> Programs](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=614]Summer”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=614)
