New Freshman here

I just started off as a Freshman and I'm wondering - is having mostly Bs and a C a good or bad indicator?
I know everyone talks about how hard the classes are and how a lot of people flunk out but the classes are only going to get harder right? I just finished up by last mid terms and I have solid B's in three classes and a C in Physics. Am in trouble? Or am I okay?

I’m a parent and I’m assuming you would rather hear from students, but one bad semester won’t be the end of the world. I’m guessing you’ll need to study more than you did in HS. I think it’s fairly common for a “rude awakening” with grades not as good as you’d like the first semester. I hope things improve.

I wouldn’t necessarily call this a “bad” semester. RPI is a tough school and they don’t hand out As the way they do in high school or many other colleges. While As are better than Bs and C’s and you should strive to improve, at the end of the day, if you are on track to get that diploma, I wouldn’t stress too much.

I would also suggest that you make maximum use of the tutoring center, extra help sessions, and your prof’s office hours. My son found the tutoring center very helpful Freshman and Sophomore years, and he continually wondered why so few of his friends used it.
