New Jeopardy host preference? / Jeopardy updates

With Matt, Amy, Jonathan and Jaskaran in the ToC, there will be no lack of firepower. And this season isn’t over yet so who knows if there will be another super champion to add to the mix.

When I saw the final category I was talking to dh about how they would do. I said then that she likely wouldn’t get the answer, and he said that was quite an assumption because she probably had science in college. I told him, She’s a poli sci major; I bet she didn’t. No knock on poli sci majors; I have two of my own. :slightly_smiling_face:

For those who don’t know, UT has a tradition of lighting the tower when the school wins a championship or other accolades. Last night, they lighted the top of the tower orange, and people were mad that they didn’t light the whole thing orange with the number 1 in white, which is customary when UT wins a national championship. I agree; this IS a national championship. But I think they might honor him at halftime of tonight’s game!

ETA: My poli sci majors went up to BC Cal in HS.

That UT is honoring him makes me so happy.

Well, that was awkward. A guy brags about getting perfect scores on the SAT, ACT, and PSAT and then doesn’t even get to play in Final Jeopardy!

And a 4 time champion with a strange bet for Final Jeopardy. With a lead, she only needed to bet what would have assured her of a win if both contestants get the final right and the second place contestant makes an “all-in” bet. But for some odd reason, the 4 time champ does an “all-in” bet herself. Both contestants get Final wrong and second place (going into Final) is the winner. Had the 4 time champ made the proper bet, she would have been a 5 time champ. May see her in ToC anyway.

Yes, very odd betting by Margaret but I’m kind of glad to see a new champion .

I said to my husband he’s going to need a new job/business.

Odd week for Final Jeopardy bets. Champ bets too much and loses when both contestants miss FJ. Would have won had she bet the right amount. Then the champ who won that day has the lead the next to days going into FJ and bets everything both times (risking more than she needed to in the process). She gets each question right and wins both games. Then tonight, she is in third going into Final Jeopardy and again risks everything. First and second place contestants get the FJ question wrong. Had the champ gotten FJ wrong, she would have lost (again betting too much). But she got it right so she won anyway. Its all worked out for her though because she is a 4 time champ going for win #5 tomorrow.

TBH I can’t believe 2 of the 3 contestants missed last night’s Final Jeopardy.

Sometimes FJ questions are age-dependent, in that some favor younger players and others favor the gray hair crowd. A category like “TikTok Icons of 2022” would be a problem for me, for example—young folks OTOH, struggle with space program history, it seems.

My mother, 86 years old, got the Final last night immediately. Of course, she lived in that area for a good many of those 86 years (I was born in Salem).

As you can tell by my screen name, living here in MA, you hear a ton about Lizzie Borden–she was the OJ Simpson of her day, in that everyone knew she did it but was not convicted, then lived in society as if nothing had happened–very awkward to be around to be sure.

The one that stumped us was a few nights ago, Dorothy Parker-never thought of her as a poet.

The current champ Maureen just cracks me up. She acts so goofy. I told my husband she appears to be inebriated. She is funny.
Have y’all noticed a more relaxed atmosphere with contestants making comments and conversing? They never, ever happened before.

I did get the FJ, but I kinda guessed since I thought the case was much older.

But to @MADad’s point, I also think that knowledge of Lizzie is more of a Massachusetts thing, or at least New England. I know it’s a kids’ nursery rhyme (which is kinda messed up in hindsight  ) and that was the extent of my education on the topic.

My kids stayed at the Lizzie Borden house as it a B&B now. They were scared! but loved it.

I have never lived in Massachusetts (or anywhere near New England). I thought Lizzie Borden was common knowledge.

I recited that nursery rhyme as the FJ clue came up, pretty sure my mom (British) taught it to us, and I’m a life-long resident of WA. I even knew of her before the TV movie with Elizabeth Montgomery was shown (which gives a clue as to how old I am).

Ahhh. Was not aware of that.
