I'm in my senior year of high school and I am definitely in need of a new laptop for college, right now I have an HP pavilion, worked fine, but after about 4 years chrome and explorer don't open all the time and it has to be restarted to open them.

I'm open to MacBooks or Windows, just something that would be reliable. I am planning on being a social work major, so basic school stuff, I guess my budget might be $1,000 to $1,500.

I've been looking into a MacBook air, just for how light it is. But any other suggestions would be great!

If your budget is that much, I would go with the safer choice and go with a MacBook Air. I’ve used windows run laptops for a long time, the tried switching to apple. One of the best choices I have made. It’s a very simplistic interface, which makes it easier to use, and their products last a very long time. I’ve had an iPad for about three years now, and it still works as fat as the day I got it, even with major updates and data storage. Their products really are built to last. I would just wait I buy one until right before the new school year starts, the new macbook airs should be updated by then. (:

Any laptop you get for $1000-$1500 should be absolutely fine, especially if you’re going to just be using it for things like web browsing and word processing. Get whatever you like the best.

For the types of things you will be doing for your major, you don’t need to spend $1000 on a computer. If you look at PCs, essentially any computer will meet your basic needs of word processing, internet, etc. You could buy a <$400 computer and it would handle everything you need, unless you plan on doing some gaming with it.
