NEW SAT Percentiles

what rough percentile was 1400 on the old sat?

1400 was in the mid-90s

So this must mean that a 2200 is a good enough score to be competetive at top schools, right? Maybe not if you directly convert it, but if you take percentage into consideration

2200 is going to be incredibly tough to acheive on the new sat, i still believe that anything above 2100 will be competetive at top schools, on cc people will say they are assuming a score of around 2100+ et cetera, you have to remember more than 300,000 people are taking the test, and that the scores will vary tremendously. 2200 on the new sat will be 99th percentile+ guarenteed. (anything above mid 90s percentile is good, as alebed said 1400 was in the mid 90s)

That's hard to believe, but definitely encouraging. I would think that many people would score very high on the writing section, so it would make it easier to achieve a higher score.

david, there's a reason why the writing curve will be generous (-4, 800), it's because the grammer for writing is extremely tricky for many people, you have to remember that most people on cc have books or took courses for the sat, esp the writing section since its new, so they will all benefit from the curve and score in 700s. But the majority of people will not do as well on writing, it's picky, that's why the curve is generous.

Yea, you're right. It's hard not too get a little jaded after using cc for a while. I think that's a problem though, sometimes people here don't give themselves enough credit just because some poeple get ridiculously high scores. I'm jut worried about that math curve, is it going to be like -2=760? That's rough

you people, i think a 2100 shouldn't be a mid-90 percentile,
b/c 1400 SAT I is 94th,
but 700 writing is only 78th
so it doesn't add up

well that's the writing sat2, and i woudl tihnk most people who are bad writers wouldn't take it, so the percentage is abit off. For the SAT1 however, everyone will be taking the writing, so that shoudl bring the average score down a great deal.

i took the psat and got 94th percentile for a 194. granted that it is the psat and scores do go up it is still a fairly high percentile for that type of a score.

does xiggi or other ppl who know a lot about the sat's have any thoughts on this?

We'll find out in three weeks. Time will pass!
