Investor…Chapman does provide a list on their website but it is not all that inclusive…I just posted a new thread about what to bring…a list a friend sent me last year…you will laugh at some of the items but it gave us a list to work off of…and I am sure that some of the first aid items I sent along in a ziplock bag like neosporin or tweezers never got used…have fun…

Having moved two boys into their dorms in rapid succession, we have found it is always the thing that you don’t think about that you will need! Chapman is close by so many big stores that shopping isn’t a huge issue. Pack light. You can buy it nearby - and then store it nearby - for the summers.

One thing you might want to consider are duffle bags as opposed to big suitcases, since they can collapse, if you are flying. They take up less space under the bed or in the closet.

LGM: a set of sheets, ready to go, sounds great. This way, if he’s first in, he can secure the bed at least.

JetBlue has only 1 direct, nonstop and it’s early evening…strange. Otherwise they have us going all over the place. This first go-around, we’ll try this.

Thanks for all the info.

What are they charging the parents for at orientation? One would think they would want to convince the parents the college is worth the tuition.

I think it was something like $60 for 1 day, $75 for both days, per person or something like that. There was a link to register through the New Students page, click on orientation. Here’s link to the parents’ schedule:

[Chapman University - Orientation - Families](<a href=“Orientation | Incoming Undergraduates & Families | Chapman University”>Orientation | Incoming Undergraduates & Families | Chapman University)

4 meals and a reception, so that’s probably where the money is going, the rest are info sessions and assisting students into their dorms.

You could go to the orientation sessions and skip the meals. There are lots of nice restaurants in Old Town Orange.

By the way, we ate at Rutabaga’s on the Plaza last week and it was wonderful. They did not skimp on the avocados, I’ll tell you that!

uh quick question you guys

my mom doesn’t wanna go because she won’t understand anything, and by that i mean she won’t understand it cuz it’s in English D: is it okay if my mom doesn’t attend the orientation stuff?

monkarr: If it’s due to language embarrassment (I know all about it, I have a Japanese mom - dad did double duty in that department). If she hasn’t been to campus and doesn’t want anything to do with orientation, then see if there are any tours for prospectives between now and late August, where she can at least go through the buildings, see the student body and visualize your life there. Prospectives’ parents can ask all the questions and she can observe. She might like that, and it’s low/no demand.

No need for her to go to the orientation sessions, but she might like to help get you moved into your room.

It sounds as if a lot of students are from out of the area. I was under the impression most were local. Just out of curiosity, who is coming from where?

thanks for the replies :]
and I’m coming from Cerritos, which is like 20 min away (or less) from Chapman

S is coming from Miami, FL

Simi Valley, Like an hour and a half away!

I’m coming from Arlington, Texas but I lived in Placentia (right near Cal State Fullerton) until about a year ago.

I’m coming from Sammamish, Washington (just outside of Seattle). I was born and raised in Orange though, so I’m coming home!! :)

I’m coming from Long Island, NY…literally, across the country.

Would my daughter really benefit from having a refrigerator in her room? I’m not sure there will be enough room for it since she will be a freshman and most likely be in a triple.

My son was in a triple…they ordered the refrigerator/micro combo and had room for it between the closet and heat/air conditioner unit…he said they used it all the time to keep drinks cold, make popcorn, etc…once he found out his roommates, one of them took charge and ordered and paid for the combo unit and my son and other roommate paid him for their share…there was a choice of a new unit or a used one for a bit less money…they went with used and had no problem with it…

Almost all of the students are in triples and almost all of them rent the fridge/micro combo unit. Remember that the cafeteria hours are pretty crummy and sometimes they need to eat in their rooms.
