New thread for cat lovers

Hope you got your girls!

I have two of the most adorable little girl kittens ever born. :x

Each is sound asleep in her own carrier (door open so she can go in and out.) Not siblings but same age and size and seem oh-so-compatible. The one called Sweetie climbed into the one called Stacyā€™s carrier for a bit of her nap.

As you can perhaps tell, we plan to rename the girls - just donā€™t have the names yet. Iā€™ve got a couple names in mind but feel free to throw out names you like or wished youā€™d named your pet.

Congrats!!! Avatars, please?

Congrats on the new kitties. We named one of ours after a weather event during the time we were getting her, and the other was named by my 11 year old. He just through out the name and it stuck. They are ā€œoriginalā€ names.
I have to see the animal before figuring out a name.

I wanted my D2 to name her same age/not sibling kittens Thelma and Louise or Phoebe and Rachel, but she came up with her own names, which everyone thinks sound pretty goofy. But her babies, her rules.

Our sister kittens will be a year old the end of July. I went with flower names for them. D wanted me to call them Coco and Chanel!

^^^Cute! I was thinking old-fashioned names - my momā€™s (Mildred) and my mother-in-lawā€™s (Agnes). Husband isnā€™t sold on the idea but really how many kittens do you know named Mildred? (My niece named her cat Mildred after my mom - her grandma - who was a big cat lover.)

One is an orange tabby and the other a brown tabby with some orange thrown in the mix. Nothing special. Love the names suggested so far.

^^ Ha! My husband had raccoons as a child (weā€™re talking rural WI) and he named them after his grandparents: Oscar and Mildred.

Letā€™s hope your kitties are better-natured than those raccoons were!

I love Mildred and Agnes! Millie and Aggie - cute kitty names.

Sophie and Frances

I already had a cat when I met my husband. He told me he was allergic to cats and I told him the cat was with me first. He still chose to stick around. That particular cat didnā€™t seem to bother him too much, but other cats have sent him to the hospital with severe asthma attacks. I finally said no more cats about 10 years ago, but I really miss them. We have always had lots of pets (rats, ducks, snakes, turtles, etc., ) but now are down to just 2 dogs.

However, since my Mom passed away last month, we are ā€œtemporarilyā€ housing her 13 yo ā€œex-feralā€ cat, clipped ear and all. She took in Emily years ago when Emily showed up very young and pregnant. My Mom used a trap to capture her and have her spayed and then just never let her outside again. Unfortunately, Emily still has the traits of a feral cat- very skittish and really not all that nice. I can not just mindlessly pet her as she will suddenly turn and strike- my Mom always said these are love bites, but if so, Iā€™d hate to see her dislike bites. My husband is also extremely allergic to Emily , so the poor thing is isolated in a bedroom by herself. While with my Mom, Emily had recently not been using the litter box (using the floor instead) but with me she is good about it. I think my Mom was probably not taking great care of her at the end. Still, Emily is not an easily adoptable cat- when I bent over to pick something up this morning while she was on the bed, she bit me on the rear end; not a great trait to advertise to potential adopters. Some have actually suggested having her euthanized but I could never do that. Despite her sometimes nasty disposition, she does have some lovable traits. I feel bad isolating her in the bedroom and try to spend time with her when I can, but Iā€™m not home that much. I also will not take her to the animal shelter as she would be miserable (it is no-kill so she might potentially live out her life there). Not sure what I will do with Emily - any one out there need another cat?

Our (then) six-year-old son named his 12-week-old kitties Potter and Weasley (yeah, yeah, original, I know). Potter went back to the shelter after about a year-and-a-half (long story), but Weasley is a very healthy, very handsome 14-year-old Maine Coon and definitely our last pet. Son still thinks the cat is his, but I am the one the stinker is bonded to. I have never been through a pet death, but it is our sonā€™s grief that I fear. Heā€™s a 20-year-old man now but still asks for ā€œWeasley picturesā€ regularly. Iā€™m thinking I should take a few hundred now so I have some to continue doling out in lieu of ever having to give him bad news. When he comes home from school, heā€™s barely finished hugging me at the airport before he wants to know how his cat is. He will be heartbroken. :frowning:

This morning my cats earned their kibble! I dropped a large spoon full with sour cream on the floor, creating an ungodly mess. Cats to the rescue! The sour cream was licked up clean, so all I had to do is to wipe the floor lightly and Bona it.

Iā€™ve had my kittens 5 weeks + 3 days. And the best news of all: my older cat Toby (5 years old) accepted them immediately. The last time I brought a new cat - the aforementioned Toby - into the house, it didnā€™t go well. One of my older cats finally accepted Tobyā€™s presence but the other one hid in a cabinet coming out only to eat, drink, and etc., for a couple years - until she passed away.

So glad Toby welcomed the kitties!!!

Here is a cute video - from my neck of the woods:

The selfies with the cats are hilarious!

Awwwā€¦cute.

I love men who love cats.

D2 has reunited with her freshman year boyfriend (sheā€™s now a second year law school student). She has two cats. BF visited her from out of state, and told her upfront ā€œI donā€™t really like catsā€¦Iā€™m just being honest.ā€ By the end of his visit, he was holding one of her cats and kissing her belly, as shown by D2ā€™s phone video that he later gave her permission to show me.

I love dogsā€¦they are awesome. But that doesnā€™t prelude me from also loving cats and appreciating their differences.

My birthday is today, and D and SIL (both Dr.s) sent me an Amazon e gift card with the heading ā€œThe Dr.s ******* and their 8 lb. nursing assistant, Baby.ā€ Baby was my kitty that is now with them, due to living circumstances. I miss Baby every day but I know the joy she brings to both of them, working crazy and different hours. Coming home to a Baby snuggle is many times what they need.

Yes, that is her in my profile picture.

 Me too. Mr. never had a pet, but he was easy to convert. He even found that he is not that allergic to some cats - as long as they donā€™t sleep on our bed.

DH always said he didnā€™t care for cats. But over the years, I have caught him loving on our cat. Kissing her when he didnā€™t know he was being observed, sleeping in the recliner with her laying on his belly, etc. Heā€™s a softy where she is concerned, in spite of his protestationsā€¦
